The people in the insane asylum are Jeff, Hannibal, Fairy May, Florence, and Mrs. Paddy, with Doctor Emmett and Miss Wilhelmina, the nurse. Jeff was played by Wesley Schultz. Jeff is a man who thinks he has a scar on his face from being shot down in his plane during the war, but he wasn't actually there when the rest of his crew lost their lives from being shot down. He also used to be a concert pianist. Daniel Kroll plays Hannibal, who is a nerd. He is skilled in mathematics(like Jenessa) but then lost his job because the calculator was invented. He thinks he is an amazing violinist, but really can't play at all.(because Daniel kept on practicing so much with the violin, he actually started getting pretty descent.) Rachael Trunnell played Florence, the mother of us all. The government took her son, so she now has a doll and thinks he is her son. She is always watching over Fairy and all of the others. Cherilyn Jorgensen played Mrs. Paddy. Her husband told her to shut up and she did, so now she only recites the things she hates. Mrs. Paddy hates everything in the world, but most of all she hates cold cream, hot dogs, catfish, codfish, etc. She is a hater of everything, especially electricity. She is always turning off the lights. Mrs. Paddy also thinks that she is an amazing artist and paints seascapes, yet she has never seen the ocean. I played Fairy May. Fairy May is constantly lying about things, so even when she is telling the truth, no one believes her. She thinks that she is the most beautiful girl there is, but truly she is uglier than my dog (not really, but my dog is ugly). Kari Weil plays Doctor Emmett. She is just a wonderful person who loves her patients. Marta Tverberg played Miss Wilhelmina, who used to be an army nurse and has traveled the world. She is actually married to Jeff, but he has no idea. She stays for the hope that some day he will come to and realize that they are married. Logan Smith played John Thomas, Florence's real son, at the very end of the play.
Then there is the Savage family. Bethany Corwine(Beef) plays Lilly Belle. Lilly Belle is a rich, stuck up brat. She has been married 6 times, one of which was to a Slavic Prince. No one is quite sure, but they think she still sleeps in her tiara. Clay Carns plays Samuel, the judge. He really does not care what goes on, he is just there for the ride. He had the best chance as a son of Mrs. Savage. He always has his decisions reversed. Benjamin Sanburn played Titus, the senator. He was a jerk. No one liked him, they just kept on sending him back to congress to get him out of the state, which was quite a smart idea. Sarah Peterson played Mrs. Savage. Mrs. Savage married her husband at 16 and had to give up on all of her dreams. Once her husband died she created a mermorial fund, in order to do all of those things that she missed being able to do. She acted in two plays one of which she wrote, and the other play she had to pay a lot of money in order to play the part of the silent witch. She changes her money into half million dollar negotiable bonds and stuffs them in her bears head, which she carries around everywhere.
This play was by far the funnest play I have ever been in. When it got to the week of the play I could not wait. We had so much fun in the practices and even in the performances. I wish everyone would have been able to see the change from when we first started practicing to the end of the play. We all helped each other get into character and loved being able to act together. It is really heart breaking to realize that this was my last time acting in a school play with my sister. She is an amazing actor and will be greatly missed along with all of the others seniors.
The performances were great. It was so much fun being able to do this for other people. During the last performance I was supposed to get a book off of the bookshelf for Jeff, but it would not come. After like 30 seconds of trying I finally pushed it up, it stood straight up, and then fell over. It was really frustrating but funny and the audience loved it. Couldn't have been a better play, cast, crew, and director. Thanks to those guys and for you all who came. It was a blast! Hope to see you all next year!!
